"Elton Potts, Group President and Chief Operating Officer of Recall, will discuss the critical ways in which secure information management can help today's enterprises mitigate some of the risks associated with conducting business in a rapidly changing business climate. Elton's session will address the importance of managing complex factors including safety, security, culture, and an increasingly stringent regulatory environment throughout the information lifecycle as a means of ensuring long term business stability and financial sustainability."
Little Factors That Lead To Big Success
Too often, business owners and managers are looking for big solutions for differentiating themselves from the competition. The problem is that big solutions are often not the "silver bullet" anticipated and they are just as often easy for competitors to copy. In this session, Renee Keener, owner of ADS Consulting and herself an owner of a successful secure destruction service, will discuss the importance of employees training and developing operating systems that focus on the things that really set you apart from the competition. Renee will use real life examples and provide concrete guidance on matters related to telephone etiquette, customer responsiveness, sales calls and service personnel interaction.
Effective Operations Techniques – A Best Practices Panel
The business of commercial information management hinges on having precise, consistent operating practices. In this session a panel of operators will explore best operating practices in hard copy information management, data protection services, and imaging and conversion services. Panelists will address market differences and drivers and conforming operating practices to address market conditions. Operating practices defined by standards will also be discussed. Time will be provided for questions and answers.
Social Media Marketing Training
Maybe you use Twitter, Facebook, or YouTube in your personal life; maybe you wouldn’t know where to start. Either way, using them for marketing your business is a whole new ball game. This session is your opportunity to find out which of these tools could help you and to start thinking of exactly how and when your business can benefit from using them. The Social Internet is putting control into the hands of your audiences, giving them new ways of communicating, new ways of learning about your products and services, new ways of engaging with your business. So your business needs fresh strategies and practical methods of connecting with this highly connected audience. In this session, you will learn how you can take advantage of a broad range of free and low cost Social Media marketing tools. Learn how they can be used as part of your audience development strategy, see practical examples of these tools in action, discuss what these technologies mean, good or bad, for your organisation.
Winds of Change: Consolidation in the Secure Destruction Industry in Europe
Over the last several decades, the Records Management and Secure Destruction industries in the U.S. have undergone waves of consolidation. On the other hand, while consolidation has been a factor in the UK market, the European region as a whole has yet to follow suit. In this session, David Lane of Lane-Link Group will discuss why industry consolidation in Europe is inevitable, why it has lagged, why it will become the next wave, and what it means for the industry overall. Insight will be provided to assist in whether individual companies should ride the wave or remain independent.
The Mind of the Consumer: The Results of NAID's EU Market Research
What do customers know about information destruction? What factors do they think are most important when selecting a vendor? What misconceptions must be overcome to fully develop the secure destruction opportunity? How much of the market remains undeveloped? In May of this year, NAID-Europe embarked upon the first-ever secure destruction consumer attitude survey to be conducted in Europe. To do so, the association engaged one of the most highly respected marketing research firms in the region. In this session, Andrew Dalglish of Circle Research will report the initial findings of the survey, yielding new information that is critical to both delegates and the association in making sound strategic marketing decisions.

General Session: Looking Ahead – The Next 30 Years of Information Management in Europe
Thirty years ago personal computers did not exist. Windows was unknown and MicroSoft and Apple were barely concepts. Thirty years ago CERN’s revolutionary work that formed the basis for the Internet was still half a decade away and the commercial records and information management industry was still in its infancy. In the last 30 years we have lived through digitalization, data conversion, mobile computing, the rise and fall of fax machines, the explosion of identity theft and the invention of confidential destruction, the rise of electronic mail and the tidal wave of digital spam that accompanied it. With so many changes and technology applications impacting our industry in the last 30 years, this begs the question “What will the next 30 years bring to information management in Europe? Dr. Saffady will follow trends, identify horizon technology and outline where business opportunities may be appearing for the information management and confidential destruction industries in the future. Don’t miss this session!
Records Program Compliance Among European Member States
Because records entail evidence of business operations restrictions on how and where records must be stored are manifold within the EU and among the various member states. In this session, Dr. Saffady will provide A global survey of regulatory requirements and trends that affect the retention and use of electronic records. Topics will include: the use of electronic records to satisfy retention requirements, the acceptability of digital images as substitutes for paper copies, limitations on cross-border transfer of electronic records, and national requirements for in-country storage of records. EU regulations will be covered. Examples from Asian and Middle Eastern countries will also be cited.
What is Next for Mobile Destruction in Europe: Lessons from the US Experience
Most industry observers feel that the market for secure destruction services in Europe bears many similarities to market conditions in the United States during the 1990s. If that is so, it could mean good things lie ahead for those who know what to expect. In this presentation, two industry professionals in the business during that era will address those similarities and explain how service providers offering either mobile or plant-based service can benefit from the lessons they and their colleagues learned through that experience.
Scar Tissue – What I Learned From Past Mistakes
In this session a panel of operators will relate their experiences and lessons they learned through those experiences. In addition to discussing such areas as operations lessons, deliver and client site errors and experience, contract and legal lessons learned, and sales and marketing lessons, panelists will also take questions from attendees.
Cost Effective Strategies to Diversify into Secure Records Storage
While data destruction companies are quick to recognize that they are uniquely suited to offer records storage services, they are often put off by high start up costs, the maturity of the developed market, and, maybe most of all, the unknown. In this session, NAID-Europe Chair and NAID Director Lloyd Williams will describe how it is done, what surprises he encountered, what he would do differently, and how to do it with as small an investment as possible.
Genneral Session: What to Expect in the New Data Protection Directive (And what we can do about it).
It is official. The EU Commission has directed the long-awaited rewrite, some say recreation, of the EU Data Protection Directive. In the meantime, however, while we await the revision, there is no shortage of hints as to what the Commission is planning to achieve with the new directive. Even the reputation of Ms. Viviane Reding, the EU Commissioner selected to lead the project, speaks volumes about their perspective and their intentions. In this concluding General Session, NAID Executive Director Bob Johnson will filter through what prompted the rewrite and what has been said and done in regard in the meantime, ending with a review of how our trade associations, as well as their individual members, can best prepare for the resulting opportunities.
